Oda Nobuhide Samurai Armor — Black Lacquer, Full Life-Size Set

Before there was Nobunaga there was his father. Oda Nobuhide spent his life fighting the Imagawa and the Matsudaira for control of Owari province, won more often than he lost, and died in 1551 leaving a domain that was strong but not yet dominant and a teenage heir that most of his retainers considered a liability.

He is remembered mainly as a footnote to his son, which is unfair to a competent commander. Without the province he assembled, the Oda unification would not have had a starting point.

The armor is severe: black lacquer over the whole body, dark lacing, silver-toned plate at the cuirass, and a plain forked crest. There is no gilt anywhere on this set. It is the sort of armor a working provincial lord actually owned.
