Sanada Yukitaka was the one who built the house. He lost his lands early, spent years in exile, and returned as a retainer of Takeda Shingen — for whom he took Toishi Castle in 1551 by intrigue after Shingen had failed to take it by assault. He was named one of the Takeda's twenty-four generals, and the province he recovered became the base his grandson would defend at Osaka two generations later.
He is the least famous of the three Sanada on this page and the reason the other two are famous at all.
The armor departs from the Sanada red: deep green lacing over black lacquered plate, with tall gilt antlers at the brow and silver-toned skirt panels. Green is unusual in reproduction armor, which is exactly why this set stands out on a shelf beside the red ones.
